Community Programs
One of our club goals is to provide service to our community. We engage in regular activities, funded by donations and gifts from members themselves, to serve community members.
Senior Events
Approximately every quarter we hold a senior event, open to all Windsor seniors, at the Vinecrest Apartments on Hembree. Most of our guests are senior women although men are always welcome! We may play bingo or other games or provide entertainment. We have served a pasta dinner and on another occasion provided materials for our guests to build their own mini-succulent garden. Friendships have flourished over the years of this activity.
Holiday Giving
Each year we work with the Sonoma County public nurse program to identify needy families in Windsor. Once we have determined who the families are and how many of them there are we provide a cash gift to help them through the holiday season. The funds for these gifts come from our club resources.
For the past several years we also have provided Thanksgiving dinner—turkey and all the fixings—to mothers and children who live in Harold’s House, a temporary home for women who are getting their lives back together after leaving an abusive relationship. Club members come together to donate these items from their own pockets.
We also provide funding each year to organizations including the “Worth our Weight” culinary program for at-risk teens, and to support the Sonoma County Human Trafficking Task Force on which several of our club members participate directly.
Charlie Brown Christmas Tree
Just for fun each year Soroptimist International Windsor sponsors a “Charlie Brown Christmas Tree” on the Windsor Green. This is a great time for us to get together to begin to celebrate the holidays.
